Integrating Indigenous Spirituality and Western Psychotherapy: A Practical Approach


TIME: Thursday, 12:00 to 2:00 PM PDT

Nadia Rojas Jones, Ph.D., will discuss the importance of assessing spiritual and indigenous beliefs that persons in the Latino culture have and how these beliefs directly impact their mental health. After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Address the importance of indigenous cultural beliefs in Latino countries
  2. Address the importance of being sensitive, curious and multicultural competent when working with people who hold and/or practice internal indigenous belief system
  3. Demonstrate a practical approach for integrating western psychotherapy with indigenous belief systems
  4. Identify further research needed in this area of study
