Biographical Sketch
George P. Mitchell is a retired employee of Exelon Corporation (ComEd), a company he served for 30 years. At retirement, Mitchell was the director of diversity management for the corporation. In this capacity, he managed the activities of the diversity staff and council to provide direction for others in the corporation in relation to ComEd's diversity initiative.
Mitchell held a variety of other positions at ComEd, including director of compensation and benefit planning, and human resources manager for the company's headquarters and its Chicago North Division. He also served as area manager with responsibilities for all company operations in west suburban Cook County and Du Page County.
Mitchell is a graduate of Southern Illinois University, majoring in psychology. He also completed graduate work at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Mitchell continues to volunteer his time and holds leadership roles in many other organizations.
Mitchell is the past chairman of the Skokie Human Relations Commission. In this role he contributed to programs designed to develop appreciation for the diverse population within the village. Other civic and community involvement include the Village of Skokie Plan Commission, the Midwest Community Council Board of Directors, former president of North Shore Community Housing Resource Board, and president of the Evanston North Shore Branch of the NAACP.
Mitchell and his wife, Patricia, have been married for more than 40 years. They have two adult children and have lived in the Skokie/Evanston community for almost 30 years.
