Biographical Sketch
As Portfolio Manager for Ariel Appreciation Fund, Mr. Sauer works on the stock selection for Ariel Investments' mid-cap institutional portfolios. Additionally, he oversees Ariel Investments' proprietary research in the consumer products and insurance industries.
Mr. Sauer joined the firm in 2006 with more than 18 years of experience in the investment management arena. He spent 13 years with Oak Value Capital Management in a variety of leadership positions that have culminated in his roles of Executive Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager as well as director of research. While at Oak Value Capital Management, Mr. Sauer was instrumental in the launch and management of the well-respected Oak Value Fund. He earned an MBA from Duke University and graduated from Lawrence Technological University with a B.S. in humanities.
Mr. Sauer is a Trustee of the Adler Planetarium and serves on the Board of Directors of Chicago SCORES, a nonprofit organization for at-risk students.
