Biographical Sketch

Michael Horowitz, Ph.D., is the founding president and CEO of the nonprofit TCS Education System (TCS ES), a network of specialized institutions backed by a shared model of education that prepares socially responsible, culturally competent professionals in applied fields such as psychology and behavioral sciences, health and human services, and education and human development. TCS ES' collection of colleges and graduate schools—The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, The Santa Barbara & Ventura Colleges of Law, and Pacific Oaks College—each offer scholarship, training, and service opportunities directed to a specific career path while providing a transformative educational experience that insures that the students' personal, academic, and professional needs are met.

Other System affiliates include Garfield Park Preparatory Academy, a K-8 elementary school on Chicago's West Side devoted to delivering a progressive, evidence-based curriculum and Pacific Oaks Children's School in Pasadena, Calif., which provides experiential early childhood learning and daycare.

Dr. Horowitz oversaw the creation of the System at the conclusion of his decade of service as president of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where he remains a trustee. He joined The Chicago School in 2000 at a time when it was a single program, single campus institution with 215 students. Today, its enrollment exceeds 4,000, making it the largest nonprofit school of its kind in the nation. Students are enrolled in one of more than 20 degree programs spanning all branches of psychology and offered in Online formats at campuses located in Chicago, Los Angeles County, Orange County, and forthcoming in Washington, D.C.

Before joining The Chicago School, Dr. Horowitz was dean and professor at the Arizona School of Professional Psychology. He also is a past president of the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology. He is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and currently serves as the chair of the Board of Trustees of Pacific Oaks College and Children's School.

Dr. Horowitz earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Northwestern University and a B.A. in Psychology and Political Science from Columbia University, graduating cum laude. He resides in Evanston, Ill., with his wife and fellow clinical psychologist Dr. Jeannie Gutierrez and daughter Maya. His son Eli attends Vanderbilt University. His hobbies include fitness and exercise, in particular Iyengar yoga.
