Biographical Sketch
William Houston founded Elsworth & Associates in 1995 to invest in middle-market manufacturing companies and high-technology start-ups. At Elsworth and his previous partnership, LaSalle Capital Group, Houston invested in more than 20 privately-held operating companies. He was a Sloan Scholar at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business in 1994-95. Stanford awards the Sloan Fellowship and a Master of the Science of Management to a select number of senior managers in the middle of their careers. Earlier, Houston graduated from Amherst College with a B.A. cum laude in history. Around that time, he co-authored a book reviewing fellowships and internships that provided experience in the professions to people before they entered graduate school. The book was published by E.P. Dutton.
Houston is active in the community, having regularly volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and "Discovery," a mentor program for sixth graders enrolled at Henderson School on the southwest side of Chicago. He bikes and hikes in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and crewed on a Star boat in the U.S. Olympic Trials, qualifying for the finals in Long Beach, Calif., in 1984.
