Hostage seminar participant takes notes of the situation.
The intensity was turned up at the Los Angeles Campus this month as the Forensic Psychology Department hosted its first two-day seminar, December 12 and 13, on hostage negotiation. The program pooled the talents of Officer Gregory H. Sancier, Ph.D., of the San Jose Police Department, and actors who took the roles of hostage takers and victims. The scenarios were based on real cases that have been responded to by forensic psychologist in the field. Student participants were able to apply the negotiation skills learned in the classroom to work. The seminar was organized by Dr. Debra Warner, associate professor and lead faculty for the department.
