STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES SANDY HOOK PLAN

(LOS ANGELES) January 16, 2013—Psychologists at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology applaud President Obama and The Department of Health and Human Services’ efforts to mobilize medical and scientific experts as well as mental health experts to prevent tragedies such as Sandy Hook, and similar tragedies that take place across our country in schools and neighborhoods where children live and play.

With more than 300 nonprofits and community partners working in the field to counsel those suffering with mental health and addiction issues, including members of our military, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology stands ready to join forces and be part of the national dialogue to ensure the enforcement of the Mental Health Parity and Addictions Equity Act, and help reduce the fear and stigma of mental illness that prevent people from coming forward for help.
