Center for Latino Mental Health

Latinos represent our nation’s largest and fastest growing ethnic group, yet there remains a striking lack of knowledge regarding the unique mental health needs facing the Latino population—and a troubling shortage of culturally competent mental health professionals prepared to meet those needs.

The Chicago School’s Center for Latino Mental Health works to bolster understanding of and access to culturally competent mental health services through scholarly research, community service, and education.

Research
The Center for Latino Mental Health research lab works to spur innovative research that will positively influence the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders among the Latino population. Although our faculty and students lead much of this precedent-setting research, we also invite and  encourage professionals in the field to contribute to and/or collaborate with us to expand the Latino mental health research and knowledge base.

Community Service
To further advance our impact in the Latino community, The Center for Latino Mental Health forges partnerships with community and social service agencies that serve the Latino population. Our students and faculty lend their expertise at these organizations by providing culturally competent mental health services, conducting culturally relevant research, developing new treatment models, and more. In turn, students gain invaluable hands-on training that prepares them to be even more effective leaders in the field of Latino mental health.

Education
The need for culturally competent mental health professionals trained in the assessment and treatment of Latino clients is enormous. In response, The Chicago School has developed the following academic programs that focus on Latino mental health:
