CTA U-Pass

Together with the CSSA, the Office of Student Services is happy to offer U-Pass, a discounted CTA fare card to full-time students.

What is a U-Pass?
For all full-time students, the U-Pass will replace your normal CTA fare card.  It will give you UNLIMITED rides aboard CTA buses and trains: no cash needed, no transfer charges, no surcharges.

Where can I use my U-Pass?
You can use your U-Pass on all CTA trains and buses.  It is not valid for travel on Metra trains or PACE suburban buses.

Am I eligible for U-Pass?
All individuals registered as a full-time student within their program will receive a U-Pass.

How much will my U-Pass cost?
As a full-time student, the cost of your U-Pass is included in your Institutional Services Fee (formerly Student Services Fee).  Tuition and fees, including the cost of the Institutional Services Fee, are announced each year in June.

Do I get a new U-Pass each semester?
Yes

Where do I pick up my U-Pass?

  • Distribution for U-Passes will take place in the 4th floor lobby during the first week of each semester beginning at 9:00 a.m.
  • CTA representatives will be on-campus during these days administering the distribution and taking photos for the U-Pass card.

When is my U-Pass active?
Your U-Pass is activated on the first day of the semester and stays active until five days after the last day of the semester.  During this time period, you can use your U-Pass on the CTA bus and rail system at any time.

What must I do to start using my U-Pass on the first day of the semester?
You must be registered as a full-time student by the end of the Open Schedule Modification Registration Period. If you register late or must add courses during the Add/Drop Period to bring your credit load to full time, you will not receive your U-Pass until the 4th week of the semester.

What happens if I change my status from part-time to full-time or vice versa?

  • From full-time to part-time before the end of the Add/Drop deadline: Student's U-Pass will be deactivated before the end of the month; student will not be assessed the U-PASS charge
  • From full-time to part-time after the Add/Drop deadline: Student's U-Pass will not be deactivated for the remainder of the semester; charges will not be removed from the student account
  • From part-time to full-time after the Add/Drop deadline: Student will not be eligible for a U-PASS and will not be assessed the U-Pass fee

What happens if my U-Pass is lost, damaged, or stolen?
All replacement requests must be made in person. CTA requires that all lost or stolen claims be managed directly through their offices, not the school. Students must go to CTA Customer Service Department at 567 W. Lake Street (second floor) to request a new U-PASS which will be delivered to the Office of Student Services within 5-7 business days. You will receive notification when your replacement U-PASS arrives. For further assistance, refer to the CTA U-PASS website: http://www.transitchicago.com/maps/upass.html OR call CTA U-PASS Hotline at 312.664.7200, ext. 3051 Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

LOST OR STOLEN: The charge for lost and stolen passes is $35.00, payable to CTA at the time that the request is made.

DAMAGED: If your pass is damaged CTA will compensate you in the form of an alternate farecard; there is no charge to you.
