Faculty Learning Lab

The Faculty Learning Lab creates opportunities for faculty to explore new approaches to teaching and learning. It supports the wise application of effective pedagogical tools in diverse learning environments as a means to creating transformative student learning experiences.

Program Goals

Informed by the mission of The Chicago School and the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE), the Faculty Learning Lab supports pedagogical excellence by offering programs that help faculty:

  • Create effective teaching and learning experiences 
  • Understand and implement departmental policies and practices
  • Manage the classroom experience
  • Fulfill the administrative requirements of a faculty position

Topics addressed in workshops include:
  • Creating significant learning experiences
  • Assigning and assessing written work
  • Managing the classroom learning environment
  • Using Angel as a tool for critical thinking
  • Applying learning style theory to classroom presentations
  • Enhancing PowerPoint presentations
  • Writing assessment tools such as quizzes, exams, papers, and projects
  • Designing engaging lectures
  • Getting to know The Chicago School
