Program Objectives

  • Graduates of our California Industrial Organizational Psychology programs will gain a foundation in I/O  psychology theory and research, allowing them to take the lead in personnel selection, organizational assessment, development, and interventions.
  • Through the experience students will gain in I/O psychology research and statistical methods, they will be able to approach problems critically in an applied setting and draw upon the research methodologies they obtained during their Industrial Organizational Psychology education to design appropriate and effective interventions.
  • Students will gain the ability to develop and execute the practices they will need to function in a professional business setting, such as the implementation of surveys, selection systems, and performance management systems.
  • Students graduating from our West Coast Industrial Organizational Psychology school will acquire the interpersonal and personal skills necessary when entering a business environment, including effective communication, conflict negotiation, training and development, strategy development, networking skills, business savvy, and cross-cultural awareness.


Program Requirements/Expectations

The Industrial/Organizational Psychology M.A. is a full-time or part-time program requiring 46 credit hours, including six electives. Intensive I/O psychology course work balances theory, practice, and two supervised internships. It is a two-year full-time or three-year part-time program that must be completed within five years. Students must be enrolled for a minimum of nine semester hours during fall and spring semesters to be classified as full time.


Qualifications to Apply

  • Generally an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. However, each applicant is reviewed holistically, taking factors such as personal and professional experience and accomplishments into consideration. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Office of Admission to discuss their unique qualifications.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Completion of one course in quantitative statistics, one course in research methods/experimental psychology, and at least one course in psychology

Additional Application Requirements for International Students

If English is not your primary language, you must submit official scores from TOEFL (www.toefl.org) (School Code: 7161) or from IELTS (www.ielts.org) with your application. If you attend or have attended a university that is not in the United States, you must submit a “course-by-course” evaluation of your transcripts. You can arrange for an evaluation through several organizations: World Education Services or Educational Credential Evaluators Inc. Students must have a U.S. equivalent bachelor's degree. You also must submit to The Chicago School all official undergraduate and graduate transcripts in addition to the agency evaluation. Visit the Office of International Student Services website for more information about additional requirements once you have been admitted.

International students must have a completed application by the general consideration deadline. This will allow sufficient time to obtain the additional documentation required to study in the United States. Upon acceptance, international students must supply documentation of financial support showing the ability to finance their education. An I-20 visa will not be issued without this documentation.
