Description of Organization
We are a multi-faceted social service agency serving over 10,000 children, youth and families a year in six Illinois counties. Our broad range of programs includes foster and adoptive placement, community and violence reduction programs for youth, a therapeutic day school, supervised housing for pregnant or parenting teens, Clinical and Counseling Services, advocacy and much more.
Type of Project(s)
Tutoring
- Group tutoring opportunities available to help UCAN’s youth with homework and basic general education skills.
Skills: Basic math, reading and literature skills to help 7th -10th graders with homework.
Mentoring
- UCAN’s mentor program serves the needs of our youth through one-on-one or group relationships. This is done through positive adult role modeling that provides the foundation for a youth’s social and cultural experiences.
Skills: Ability to encourage young people to build positive relationships with adults. Recognize importance of broadening a youth’s social-emotional development, educational, and cultural experiences.
Youth Advocacy/Support Opportunities
- Topics to be presented to UCAN youth in a workshop/presentation format which will prepare our youth for future vocational and educational experiences. Topics can include (but are not limited to) financial literacy, computer skills, public speaking, book clubs, poetry or spoken word, vocational skill building and educational research/development.
Skills: Previous knowledge, education, or experience in area that you are to present.
Organizational Requirements
- TB test, drug test, background and finger printing checks
- 9 month commitment
- Attend monthly on-campus CES seminars
