Dr. Casey Sharpe is a graduate of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology’s Forensic Master’s program and Clinical Psy.D. program. Prior to joining The Chicago School as faculty, Dr. Sharpe was a postdoctoral fellow in forensic psychology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Law & Psychiatry program. She conducted forensic evaluations (competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, aid in sentencing, civil commitment/risk assessments) at Bridgewater State Hospital, a maximum security state forensic hospital, and at Worcester State Hospital, a Department of Mental Health facility. She provided expert testimony in cases involving civil commitment for individuals with mental illness and risk for violence, as well as dangerousness related to drug/alcohol abuse. Dr. Sharpe also conducted individual therapy with clients who were civilly committed to Bridgewater State Hospital after a finding of Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI). Additionally, she performed competence to stand trial and criminal responsibility screening evaluations, as well as assessments related to commitment and treatment for drug and alcohol abuse at various court clinics throughout the state of Massachusetts. In addition to her work at The Chicago School, Dr. Sharpe also performs court ordered evaluations (full psychological, fitness to stand trial, domestic violence, sex offender) on a contractual basis for the Kane County Diagnostic Center. Her areas of clinical interest include: assessment of criminal responsibility and competence to stand trial, violence risk assessment and risk management, and sex offender evaluations. Research interests include: assessment of criminal responsibility in individuals with Asperger’s Disorder, psychopathy, sex offenders, and general assessment. Dr. Sharpe has also successfully fulfilled requirements for consideration as a Designated Forensic Psychologist (DFP certification) for the state of Massachusetts. In addition to her teaching duties and clinical work, Dr. Sharpe also provides supervision to practicum students at The Chicago School's Forensic Center.
