*This event is co-sponsored by the Newport Psychoanalytic Institute*

Presented by Melody Bacon, Ph.D., Laura Caghan, Psy.D., Psy.D., and Ricardo E. Gonsalves, Ed.D., this presentation targets an audience that holds an intermediate or advanced understanding of psychology. The presentation will provide three different psychodynamic/psychoanalytic views in the evaluation of how gender, ethnicity, and class are portrayed in the film I Am Love directed by Luca Guadagnino. The use of film as a means of viewing individual and family crises will be discussed as a technique to improve empathy, critical thinking, and clinical practice. I Am Love will be viewed at the start of the workshop, and a panel discussion with faculty from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and the President of the Newport Psychoanalytic Institute will follow.  The panel will provide information regarding the integration of differing theories in the context of therapeutic work.

About the film: Passion. Wealth. Love. Family. Betrayal. This is a gorgeous movie about the challenges of maintaining one’s dignity and sanity. Amid the chaos of shifting fortunes and personal loyalties there is Emma Recchi (Tilda Swinton): the wife and mother who seems to reside at the margins of the elite and powerful brood. Although deeply committed to her husband and son, the radical changes in the structure of the old clan require her to take a very different path.
