Psychopharmacology: Experiences, Sciences, and Ethics

Co-presented by Robert Foltz, Psy.D. and filmmaker, Kevin P. Miller, this presentation will provide a multi-dimensional view on the use andeffectiveness of psychotropic medications in youth and adults. Dr. Foltz will present an overview of the major classes of psychotropics and a criticalanalysis of the trends in their use, their effectiveness, and the integration of psychotherapy with medication use. He will also discuss the ethicalimplications for mental health professionals, cost/benefit analysis of care, limits of expertise, and patient advocacy. The documentary film, Lettersfrom Generation Rx, will be shown and discussed, and the filmmaker, Kevin P. Miller, will discuss the experiences of those highlighted in the film.
About Robert Foltz, Psy.D., Associate Professor, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology:
Robert Foltz, Psy.D. has many publications and presentations related to the critical examination of using medications in those struggling with severedisorders. He has over 25 years of clinical experience working in inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings. Dr. Foltz teaches courses related tosevere psychopathology, pediatric psychopharmacology, and professional issues and ethics.
