The Coen Brothers’ Raising Arizona: Comedy & The Art of Individuation

June 3, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm CDT

FRIDAY, JUNE 3RD, 2016, 1:00PM – 4:00PM (REGISTRATION OPENS AT 12:45PM)

THE CHICAGO SCHOOL OF PROFESSIONAL PSYCHOLOGY 325 N. WELLS STREET
ROOM 719
CHICAGO, IL 60654

The Coen brothers’ 1987 comic masterpiece, Raising Arizona, provides an unusually complex and complete depiction of the individuation process as conceived by C. G. Jung.  Central to the story and the process is the impact of what Jung, drawing on an analogy to the transformational processes of alchemy, called a work against nature (opus contra naturam).

About the presenter: George Hogenson, Ph.D., is a senior Jungian psychoanalyst in private practice in the Chicago Loop and in Oak Park, IL.  He holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Yale University, an M.A. in clinical social work from the University of Chicago, and the Diploma in Analytical Psychology from the C. G. Jung Institute of Chicago.  He is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Analytical Psychology and on the Executive Committee of the International Association for Analytical Psychology.  He is the author of Jung’s Struggle with Freud and has written extensively on the history and theory of analytical psychology and psychoanalysis.
