The Coen brothers’ 1987 comic masterpiece, Raising Arizona, provides an unusually complex and complete depiction of the individuation process as conceived by C. G. Jung. Central to the story and the process is the impact of what Jung, drawing on an analogy to the transformational processes of alchemy, called a work against nature (opus contra naturam).
