Time Blind: A New Take on ADHD – San Diego campus
March 16 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm PDT
Over 10% of today’s youth in the US are diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and yet few disorders are so poorly understood. Even the name itself leads to confusion: neither attentional problems nor hyperactivity are necessary symptoms of this typically life-long and sometimes debilitating diagnosis. During this 2-hour introductory presentation, Dr. Joshua D. Wyner presents the most up-to-date research on ADHD, based on the work of Dr. Russel Barkley, and links it back to a general model of decision-making rooted in Dr. Antonio Damasio’s work on somatic markers. When combined, this integrative model provides a new understanding of ADHD as a spectrum disorder that allows clinicians to better diagnose and treat their patients.
