Biography

Dr. Fogel is Board Certified in Forensic Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). He began teaching at The Chicago School as adjunct faculty in spring 2003, the first academic year of the Forensic Psychology M.A. program. In January 2006, he joined the Department of Forensic Psychology as its Associate Chair. In May 2007, he became Chair. After over three years of service, in August 2010, Dr. Fogel transitioned to faculty. Prior to joining The Chicago School, Dr. Fogel served as Director of the Sex Offender Evaluation Unit for the Illinois Department of Corrections and as a forensic evaluator at Bridgewater State Hospital-Massachusetts' only maximum security forensic psychiatric hospital-for the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Fogel has extensive experience authoring forensic evaluation reports and providing expert witness testimony in both civil and criminal matters. He has completed forensic evaluations in several states and at the federal level.

In addition to his activities at The Chicago School, Dr. Fogel is a member of the American Psychological Association's (APA) Committee on Legal Issues, which provides and promotes expertise on psycholegal issues and trends for APA, and the Illinois General Assembly's Sex Offenses and Sex Offender Registration Task Force, which is charged with making recommendations to the General Assembly regarding legislative changes for evidence-based sex offender risk classification and monitoring practices. In 2014, Dr. Fogel was President of the American Board of Forensic Psychology (ABFP), which is the ABPP specialty board responsible for the certifying process in forensic psychology. He was the ABFP National Chair of Examinations from 2011 through 2013, and recently completed a three-year term of appointment on APA's Committee on Professional Practice and Standards, which is primarily responsible for the creation and review of practice standards and guidelines promulgated by APA.
