Dr. Quiñonez was the Chair of the Counseling Department at TCS from 2004 to 2013. During her tenure, she developed the department from a 26 student academic program to one with three degree programs, over 350 students and 20 core faculty. As well, her experience in the field highlighted the need for culturally competent training for and about Latinos. The Center for Latino/a Mental Health and a curricular concentration embedded in the masters program, were established through this inititative. Professionally, she has had leadership roles with the Alliance for Latino Behavioral Workforce Development, the ENLACE Endowment Fund and Advisory Board, and the Midwest Association for Latino Psychology.
A licensed psychologist, Dr. Quiñonez has experience in several clinical settings including HIV mental health, university counseling, trauma treatment, private practice, psychological assessment and community mental health. She scripted and was showcased in a training video and CD, Latino Worldviews in Counseling (ACA, 2006). Her clinical and research interests include clinical supervision in cross cultural settings; trauma treatment and theory; minority students in higher education; gay, lesbian, bisexual issues and the [email protected] immigrant experience.
