On Thursday March 29, the inaugural Celebration of Chicago’s Social Impact Leaders Awards Luncheon was held at the Sofitel Hotel Magnificent Mile to honor those who have heightened awareness of mental health needs and increased access to care.
Actress Torrey DeVitto, known from the television series Chicago Med and Pretty Little Liars, was the emcee for the luncheon. An avid mental health advocate, Ms. DeVitto shared some of her family’s and her own experiences dealing with mental health issues.
Clinical psychology student, Ronald Love, shared his background and strong desire to help others through mental health services at the community level. Through The Chicago School’s values of education, innovation, service and community he is preparing to embark on a path to help underrepresented communities and give back to the community where he grew up by being an advocate and helping others to live a fulfilling life. He shared that his journey and his experiences at The Chicago School and in the community have been nothing short of life changing.
Close to 200 guests gathered to honor the inspiring work of The Chicago School Trustee Dr. Richard Chaifetz, Dr. Beth N. Rom-Rymer, and Marilyn and Larry Cohen, and to raise money for the Naomi Ruth Cohen Institute for Mental Health Education, scholarships for clinical psychopharmacology and public health programs, and excellence in education and training on the Chicago Campus.
TCS Education System President Dr. Michael Horowitz introduced Dr. Chaifetz and gave him his award, and The Chicago School President Dr. Michele Nealon presented awards to Dr. Rom-Rymer and the Cohens. Participants in the opportunity drawing won amazing prizes: a one-week stay in Switzerland, behind-the-scenes experiences at the Field Museum and Brookfield Zoo, and Chicago Cubs tickets.
We wish to thank all the guests, volunteers, alumni, honorees, donors and staff members who helped make this event a huge success! Because of our generous guests and donors, we exceeded our fundraising goals!
A special thank you to our Silver Sponsors: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, TCS Education System, and The Saint Louis University Community and President, Dr. Fred Pestello.
Watch for our 2nd annual Social Impact Award luncheon event date coming soon.
