The Mental Health Heroes Award is an inaugural fundraising event, presented by The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and The Counseling Centers to benefit the work of The Counseling Centers. The luncheon will celebrate members of the community who have served as advocates for mental health, worked to improve access to and excellence in mental health care, increased public awareness of mental health needs, and/or taken steps to remove the stigma associated with mental illness, substance use disorder or suicide.
The event will take place in West Los Angeles at the Olympic Collection on June 7, 2017 with an expected attendance of over 100 community members, mental health professionals, faculty, students, alumni and award recipients.
The reception begins at 11:30 am followed by lunch and awards presentations. The program will include presentations by Dr. Michele Nealon, President of The Chicago School, Dr. Chris Marrero-Howieson, Director, Counseling Center at West Los Angeles, a member of the alumni, and the honorees.
All fundraising proceeds will be used to benefit the Counseling Centers of The Chicago School. Support may take place in the form of ticket purchases, sponsorships, financial donations and in-kind gifts to be used as auction items.
Financial support will help fund therapy for children, adults and families who would not otherwise have access to treatment. A $100 donation will fund up to five therapy sessions, a $200 donation will fund one month of service, and a $500 donation will provide for a comprehensive assessment of one student – a critical process that often assists with appropriate educational placement, and is financially unfeasible for many families.
