The Washington, D.C., Campus celebrated its 10th anniversary in September 2020.
With programs in applied behavior analysis, business psychology, international psychology, counseling psychology, forensic psychology, clinical mental health counseling, clinical psychology, and the dual degree with industrial/organizational psychology and legal studies, the Washington, D.C., Campus offers a rich and historical background for students to explore, learn, and grow their professional careers. Students are afforded the opportunity to work with multicultural communities, a testament to The Chicago School’s commitment to diversity and service.
Heather Sheets, Psy.D., has been dean of the Washington, D.C., Campus for almost seven years—and a community member at The Chicago School for almost 11. She describes what has made her time special and the campus unique.
“When I started in D.C., the total campus population was 230 students. Now it is more than 750, which is incredible growth in seven years,” Dr. Sheets says. “We now have more than 12 programs and more than 45 faculty and staff to support our students on their educational journeys. We have retained our high-contact student focus during the growth.”
Every September, at the beginning of the school year, The Chicago School hosts a “birthday party” for the campus—with new and returning students alike attending. It’s a fitting introduction for new students, who see firsthand the student-focused and driven community. While the party was virtual this year, the turnout was still positive.
“It’s been wonderful to see how the added programs and faculty have increased the diversity of the Washington, D.C., Campus,” Dr. Sheets says. “I only see the campus continuing to grow in a multitude of ways.”
