Carolyn Burns headshotCarolyn Burns is the founder and manager of Ukulapha Community Outreach, working with disadvantaged families and vulnerable children in Slangspruit Township, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, improving teaching and learning conditions. Born and raised in South Africa, Burns studied nursing with a pediatric specialty after high school. At 32, she ventured to Canada where she lived and worked on the West Coast for 25 years. In addition to many fortunate opportunities to travel and explore within North America, Carolyn’s curiosity evolved into a search for her true and authentic self. This led her to earn a master’s in Counseling Psychology at Saybrook University. As a child of Apartheid, Carolyn is acutely aware of having automatically received privilege. This motivated her to return to her native land to give back.
