March 17 event will explore methods that help promote individual and community empowerment
WHAT: “Resiliency and Healing in the Aftermath of Violence in Marginalized Communities” Cultural Impact Conference. Presented by The Chicago School, a leading nonprofit graduate university devoted exclusively to the study of psychology and related behavioral health services, the conference will focus on violence in marginalized communities as a by-product of structural racism and will explore how various allies (e.g. mental health providers, community advocates, business and legislative leaders, educators and students) can work together to help promote individual and community empowerment through their efforts towards social justice.
WHO: Keynote Speaker Loyola University psychology professor and author of several books on solutions to violence, James Garbarino, Ph.D., will discuss how the prevalence of violence and child maltreatment in marginalized communities contributes to the developmental impact of unresolved trauma. There will also be more than 50 presenters, including:

- Obari Cartman, H.E.L.P., LLC: “Using hip-hop to address manhood, mental health, and culture with Black youth”
