The Chicago School of Professional Psychology has a new home for its Los Angeles Campus.
“We love downtown Los Angeles and wanted to stay here,” says Michele Nealon, Psy.D., president of The Chicago School, who sits at the Los Angeles Campus. “As a university devoted to service, community, and diversity, we wanted to be in an area that would not just be easily accessible, but one that offered our students opportunities to help others and to learn through real-world training.”
The Chicago School hosted a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Los Angeles Campus on Thursday, Sept. 26. Leadership, community partners, students, alumni, and faculty all came together to celebrate this new milestone in The Chicago School’s history.
“I’m really pleased with the way it has enabled our students, faculty, and staff to collaborate and re-engage with one another,” Dr. Nealon says. “We’ve already seen how the space is going to foster the type of connection and community that will enable us to continue to live our mission.”
Previously located at 617 W. 7th St. for more than 10 years, The Chicago School’s Los Angeles Campus officially opened its doors at 707 Wilshire Blvd. in June 2019. The move marks a new start for the Los Angeles Campus, which is now located in the Aon Center, one of downtown Los Angeles’ most prominent office towers.
Before the project began, a focus group of faculty, staff, and students met with the architects to discuss what they wanted to see in their new campus. The design team then used that feedback to build out the space, with the aim to make it more welcoming, comfortable, flexible, and collaborative. Additional features of the space include state-of-the-art classrooms, an open staircase connecting the two floors of the campus, and a video wall in the student lounge area. The result is a refreshed, modern space for students to work and learn.
“It was our 10th year in our former building and also our 10-year anniversary in Southern California,” Dr. Nealon says. “We wanted to move into a new space that really communicated to our external stakeholders, to our students, our faculty and staff, that we’re re-upping our investment and our commitment to Los Angeles. We want to continue to be a vital part of this community for the next 10 years. This time, we were able to build the campus to fit our vision.”
