In this episode of “The Ed Tech Hour,” Jacqueline Diaz-Mews interviews Courtney Kelley, Ph.D. Dr. Kelley describes how she puts her research to work in the classroom, including teaching classes without grades to restore the sense of intrinsic learning young children experience before reward structures are implemented. She also addresses some of the challenges she has faced while teaching in a two-year institution, including offering the right support to students who are unprepared for a college environment; the notion of learned helplessness, which can lead some students to give up as soon as they fail at a task rather than try again; and the differences in working with traditional and nontraditional students.
