In this episode, Inaya Jaafar, Ph.D., describes her background as a middle-school teacher before first earning a master’s degree in Urban Education and an Ed.D. in Educational Psychology and Technology from The Chicago School. Dr. Jaafar explains the considerations that go into choosing between an Ed.D. and a Ph.D. for those doing research in the field of education as well as the challenges of writing a dissertation.
Regarding her professional development after receiving her degree, Dr. Jaafar explains how her interest in relationship building is reflected in her preference for qualitative research, though her background in educational technology has given her an appreciation of the importance of data in pedagogical research. Among the projects she discusses are her research of psychological first-aid following a hurricane in Florida and her co-editing of the book ”Emerging Realities and the Future of Technology in the Classroom,” in which a number of leading pioneers in educational technology share their insights. She is currently an adjunct faculty member in the Educational Psychology and Technology program.
