On October 25th, The Chicago School’s Dallas Campus partnered with Therapy & Beyond to host a sensory-friendly trick-or-treat party for the North Texas Autism community.
“Many children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder have sensory sensitivities,” explained Dallas Campus Dean Dr. Lance Garrison. “Our goal was to provide a fun environment full of traditional Halloween activities such as face painting, cookie and pumpkin decorating, trick-or-treating, balloon art, and a costume contest in a way that avoided typical visual and auditory sensory triggers such as loud noise and flashing lights.”
During the event, many members of the campus community including faculty, staff, and students helped provide an evening of fun to approximately 160 North Texas children and their families. The Campus has plans to make it an annual event.
