Creating Change

Laith Higazin headshotLaith Higazin’s passion for helping people move beyond personal barriers to achieve success led him to create a workplace wellness program for The Chicago School community partnership with Magnolia Science Academy 7 (MSA 7). “I wanted to bring deep-rooted change in my community, and a great place to start is in our schools,” Laith says.

He realized that the mental health needs of educators were not being addressed, and developed his program specifically for the staff at MSA 7..“I am here to do work for these amazing people who are also nurturing the next generation of scientists, activists, and creatives.”

New Generation of Leaders

The Los Angeles Campus I/O student’s wellbeing program, earned him the Community Partnerships Department’s 2020 Leadership Fellowship!

Laith Higazin kneelingLaith will be working with  MSA7 to create assessments and programs. These programs will support the mental wellbeing of educators. Laith states, “The principal of MSA7 mentioned burnout has always been a chronic issue. Furthermore, the pandemic has exacerbated those symptoms further than anything she has ever seen in her school. I have designed an employee well-being support program and will be implementing it over the next four months.”

Although there were several candidates being considered for this fellowship, Laith stood out because of his consistent work within his community.

“When the students are more compassionate, intelligent, artistic, loved, and supported, they will develop their communities. They are able to giving back and become more productive, loving, positive and equally important members of society explains Laith. “I am here to serve and also help above all else.”
