The Los Angeles Angels—and Disneyland—are getting a new neighbor come spring 2021.
To meet its growing needs and provide the best possible experience for students, what is now the Irvine Campus will soon become the new Anaheim Campus. The process has already started. Renderings of the newly imagined space are complete and construction is underway. The new campus will offer more than 4,500 square feet of classroom space as well as community meeting areas.
“I’m excited about many aspects of the new campus. It’s a bigger space with more classrooms, student-centered spaces, and offices to better meet our needs and offer us room to grow,” says Dean Rishel, Ph.D., associate dean of the Irvine Campus. “HLW—the global design, architecture, and planning firm that designed the Los Angeles Campus in 2019—was also tapped to design the Anaheim space. While the Los Angeles Campus has an urban theme, Anaheim will have more of a coastal feel. We’ll be on the top floor of a 12-story building with 365-degree views of Orange County.”
The new campus, which is located in Stadium Towers Plaza across from Angel Stadium and the Honda Center, will have free parking, is near the intersection of three major freeways, and is connected to a regional transit station. It will also be The Chicago School’s second campus to have prominent building signage facing the freeway—one on top of the building and one as a billboard. While a small detail, it helps promote The Chicago School in the geographic area.
Dr. Rishel emphasizes that while the location will change, the same culture and pride of the current Irvine Campus will persist—and in some ways be amplified.
“I’m excited that we’re in an entertainment center that is still developing—it gives us so many opportunities for community building,” Dr. Rishel says. “For the classes that go into the night, if students are on the right side of the building, they may be able to see the fireworks from Disneyland. If there’s a big concert at the Honda Center or a game at Angel Stadium, students can hang out on campus then walk over. The overall student experience in Anaheim should be improved compared to Irvine.”
The move is anticipated to be finalized in the spring of 2021.
