Public health is a rapidly growing field that provides job security and a variety of career paths. In fact, the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health has estimated that the U.S. will experience a deficit of 250,000 public health workers by 2020, making it an ideal field for those just starting out in their career or those who want to make a change.

 

What does a Master of Public Health degree entail?

The public health field combines data analysis and real-world problem solving that allows professional to craft sustainable solutions for their communities. Because it is such a broad field, you could go on to focus in areas like nutrition, vaccines, or health equity.

While you can specialize in a wide range of subjects, almost all Master of Public Health programs include courses on:

  • Biostatistics

  • Social & Behavioral Sciences

Hands-on experience through a practicum or internship is also part of the MPH experience. Our online MPH students at The Chicago School participate in a minimum of 100 hours of fieldwork over a semester—in accordance with national accreditation standards. We take pride in developing strong relationships with community organizations so that you can learn how to transform knowledge into practical skills out in the community even before you graduate.

Interested in an online Master of Public Health program?

We offer two full-time, online MPH degrees. Both tracks consist of 42 core course credits, 9 concentration credits, 6 fieldwork credits, and a final capstone project.

The Mental and Behavioral Aspects of Public Health concentration prepares students to work in fields related to mental health. The Public Policy Development and Advocacy concentration helps students launch careers in community engagement and government.
