Brudney Social Work Award from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mentalhealthamerica.net\/who-we-are\">Mental Health America<\/a> (MHA), a national community-based nonprofit that has been dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness for more than 100 years. Mahoney, who serves on the board of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhans.org\/\">MHA of the North Shore<\/a> in Evanston, and is the executive director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/naomicoheninstitute.org\/\">Naomi Ruth Cohen Institute for Mental Health Education<\/a> (NRCI) at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thechicagoschool.edu\/\">The Chicago School<\/a>, will receive her award during MHA\u2019s annual conference in June.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8339\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thechicagoschool.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/NRCIMahoneyHeadShot300W-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thechicagoschool.edu\/insight\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/NRCIMahoneyHeadShot300W-1.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thechicagoschool.edu\/insight\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/NRCIMahoneyHeadShot300W-1-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.thechicagoschool.edu\/insight\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/NRCIMahoneyHeadShot300W-1-293x440.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>&#8220;I am truly honored to be recognized by Mental Health America,\u201d said Mahoney. \u201cMHA is one of the premiere organizations dedicated to promoting the overall mental health of all Americans. They were early to recognize that mental health is critical to overall wellness and have been steadfastly working to reduce barriers to care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A licensed clinical social worker with more than 30 years of experience in behavioral health,Mahoney has also been awarded the prestigious national Nyswander\/Dole Award for her leadership in addressing the opioid epidemic, and was the 2010 recipient of the Mental Health America \u2013 North Shore Community Service Award. In her role as executive director of NRCI, Mahoney continues to work on behalf individuals living with mental illness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNRCI has worked for more than 15 years to overcome the stigma of mental illness,\u201d explained Mahoney. \u201cWe do this by providing mental health education, trainings, and presentations to the greater Chicagoland community. We also host an annual community mental health conference that is open to both the public and mental health professionals. This year\u2019s conference will focus on children\u2019s mental health. It will take place on June 4 at Beth Emet Synagogue in Evanston. There are no fees required to attend.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/nrciconference2017.eventbrite.com\">Registration<\/a> is still open.\u201d I hope the community will join us!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Mahoney, MHA will also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mentalhealthamerica.net\/mental-health-america-announces-winners-2017-awards\">recognize<\/a> U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy and Chris Murphy, Congressman Tim Murphy and Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson for their legislative leadership in mental health reform. Others being recognized include mental health advocate Brandon Staglin and 17-year-old founder of nonprofit TeenzTalk.org, Nadia Ghaffari.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese noteworthy awardees join an already impressive line-up of speakers and participants at this year\u2019s conference,\u201d said Paul Gionfriddo, MHA president and CEO.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About NRCI<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Naomi Ruth Cohen Institute for Mental Health Education\u2019s goal is to overcome the stigma of mental illness. The Institute provides educational programs and supports organizations engaged in mental health research, education, self-help, anti-discrimination and advocacy.
