The Chicago School of Professional Psychology is proud to welcome William Brown, Psy.D., as the new dean of the Online Campus, effective July 2019. Dr. Brown has worked as a clinical and forensic psychologist and has served in several academic and operational roles in higher education.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really fell in love with working with students, but also learning about higher education operations,\u201d Dr. Brown says of his higher education roles. \u201cI think psychology translates into the higher education environment because you are working with people, and managing human emotion and behavior. Because of the nature of our programs, you\u2019re not only using it to better interact with people, you\u2019re using it to teach others to follow in the same footsteps.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beginning his career working in psychology, Dr. Brown was recruited into higher education to teach forensic psychology at a multi-campus university. He later became a department chair and worked his way up to vice president of academic affairs, campus president, and finally to group vice president.<\/p>\n

After spending more than 10 years in higher education, Dr. Brown took some time to start a business with his wife in Key West, Florida. Once the business was sold, he returned to higher education, believing he could have the most impact on the greatest number of people working at a university. This led him to The Chicago School and his current position as dean of the Online Campus.<\/p>\n

In a time where the world is going increasingly digital, the ability to connect locally, regionally, and globally has grown. Dr. Brown cites his own ability to live in Key West and work remotely as a prime example\u2014his computer was his workspace. The Chicago School has already started to implement cutting-edge technology into its coursework.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently, The Chicago School is using multicultural virtual avatars, virtual reality, and augmented reality,\u201d Dr. Brown says. \u201cWhen you’re in an online environment, you need to engage the student just as effectively as if you were face-to-face. So we have to be engaging in all of the technologies that allow us to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Dr. Brown gets settled in, he feels proud to be a part of the greater community and is looking forward to advancing his impact for the online community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to make sure that we are providing the highest quality education we can for our students,\u201d Dr. Brown says. \u201cIt\u2019s my goal to ensure that The Chicago School\u2019s online programs continue to lead the field.\u201d<\/p>\n
