data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ssociate\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">P<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">rofessor\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thechicagoschool.edu\/chicago\/faculty\/byname\/michelle_cutler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span advice on how to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">cope during this time.<\/span><span important to stay\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">informed,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0but<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the amount of information<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">available<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0right now<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0can\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">feel<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0overwhelming and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">increase<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">feelings of anxiety.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dr. Cutler\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">cautions<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to be strategic about your intake<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cBe aware that in times of uncertainty, people go to extremes, which is not always accurate or helpful,\u201d <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">she<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> explains.\u00a0 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Decide who you are going to \u2018trust\u2019, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">and stick with that.\u201d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">She\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">recommends<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/index.html\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">CDC<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/emergencies\/diseases\/novel-coronavirus-2019\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">WHO<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dr. Cutler explains that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">d<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">uring this time\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">they are going to look to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">caregivers first about how they should be responding<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0S<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">recommend<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0taking<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the time to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">discuss the situation with<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0children\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0clear<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0up any<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0misinformation.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0\u201cFor kids, you can start from the beginning. Talk with them about planning ahead and helping them be involved in the decisions about things that would be helpful to them,\u201d she\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">says<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Fostering a sense of unity and teamwork can<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">help<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0lessen\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">their feelings of anxiety<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">E<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ngaging in family activities and projects\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is a way\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to help keep everyone\u2019s mind\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">off<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the situation<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">:<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;F<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ind things the family likes to do together that gives them comfort at any time.
