Alexandra Coleman and Preston Rice knew that there were people wanting to be allies in the fight for racial justice. They also knew that people were hesitant to speak up for fear of saying or doing the wrong thing. The two co-founders of the Black Student Society on the Chicago Campus<\/a> invited students across the University<\/a> to meet virtually.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There they would share resources and discuss White ally-ship. Called Social Change Discussion, the meetings took place in early June. Topics of discussion included \u201cresources for professional development, community groups for support, outreach, and donations.” Other topics included “how to talk about recent looting, riots, and protests, and how to identify and address our own privileges.”<\/p>\n

The student-led initiative was created specifically for students. In the video, we learn from them what it means to be an ally. We also learn what needs to be done to achieve long-lasting progress beyond the protests.<\/p>\n
