When Jaclyn\u00a0<\/span>Dyreby\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0mother died<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Jaclyn<\/span>\u00a0knew it would have a major impact on her life. What she didn\u2019t know was the great impact it would have on the lives of others.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Inspiration from Experience<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\"JaclynInspired by her mother<\/span>,<\/span> Jaclyn focused her Capstone project on access to care for cancer patients. I<\/span>nspired by the pandemic<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0she focused on mak<\/span>ing that<\/span>\u00a0access to care safer.<\/span>\u00a0“<\/span>I thought about how there are so many patients out there that are like my mom who are receiving care today.\u00a0<\/span>And<\/span>\u00a0they’re going to these hospitals to get this treatment that could potentially save their lives,\u00a0<\/span>but they’re<\/span>\u00a0at risk of being exposed to a virus that could kill them.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A\u00a0<\/span>student in The Chicago School\u2019s <\/span>Master of Health Services Administration and\u00a0<\/span>Master of Public Health\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span>MPH\/MHSA<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0dual enrollment program<\/span>, Jaclyn<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>develop<\/span>ed a\u00a0<\/span>capstone project<\/span>\u00a0that\u00a0<\/span>could change<\/span>\u00a0the face of healthcare.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>M<\/span>y project is a program for hospitals across the country to transition blood donation vehicles into external cancer treatment centers.\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>hese blood donation vehicles are not being utilized very often.<\/span>\u00a0H<\/span>ow many blood drives do you have a month and how much time of that month is a blood donation vehicle, just sitting there<\/span>?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Y<\/span>ou have the resources and the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>materials needed to treat this population.\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>he implementation part is actually the easy part, because really it just takes the acceptance of an organization and the allocation of resources<\/span>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>An innovative solution to meet the needs of the people being served.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Safe Care through Innovation<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\"Photo<\/span>Having been the primary care provider for her mother, Jaclyn remembers taking h<\/span>er mother to chemo appointments<\/span>. As<\/span>\u00a0the pandemic\u00a0<\/span>progressed,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>she tried to\u00a0<\/span>imagine\u00a0<\/span>the difficulties families\u00a0<\/span>were experiencing<\/span>. \u201cWe think that<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>you’re safe because you’re in a hospital<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and that’s not the case. You have so many people there that are even going there to seek treatment for COVID<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0This\u00a0<\/span>creates a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>high-risk<\/span> environment for immunocompromised cancer patients. W<\/span>hen\u00a0<\/span>Jaclyn<\/span>\u00a0began to work on her Capstone project<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0past and present experiences collided<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>he external cancer treatment centers became a very real and\u00a0<\/span>actionable\u00a0<\/span>concept<\/span>\u00a0for her<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"holdingNo healthcare facilities have implemented her idea,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>but<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0Jaclyn is hopeful one will soon.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cThis program is so much bigger than myself and bigger than my own ideas, if it\u2019s implemented on a large scale, we could change a lot of people’s lives.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Changing lives and making patient care better is after all why Jaclyn enrolled in The Chicago School<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As she enters the final phase of her\u00a0<\/span>program,<\/span>\u00a0she is excited to take the knowledge she has gained and change the face of the healthcare industry. She knows her\u00a0<\/span>concept can<\/span>\u00a0have long<\/span>–<\/span>lasting impact on how healthcare is managed throughout the United States<\/span>\u00a0and looks forward to continuing to be innovative.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
