Creating Change<\/span><\/h3>\n

\"LaithLaith <\/span>Higazin\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0passion for helping people move beyond personal barriers<\/span>\u00a0to achieve success<\/span>\u00a0led him to create a workplace wellness program for\u00a0<\/span>The Chicago School<\/a>\u00a0community partnership with <\/span>Magnolia Science Academ<\/span>y 7 (MSA 7)<\/span>. <\/span>\u201cI want<\/span>ed<\/span>\u00a0to bring deep-rooted change in my communi<\/span>ty<\/span>, and a great place to start is in our schools,\u201d Laith says.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He realized that\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>mental health needs of educators were not being addressed, <\/span>and developed<\/span>\u00a0his program<\/span>\u00a0specifically for the<\/span>\u00a0staff at<\/span>\u00a0MSA\u00a0<\/span>7.<\/span>.<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI am here to do<\/span> work for these amazing people who are also nurturing the next generation of scientists, activists, and creatives<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

New Generation of Leaders<\/h3>\n

The<\/span>\u00a0Los Angeles Campus<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I\/O student\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>well<\/span>being\u00a0<\/span>program,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>earned\u00a0<\/span>him<\/span> the Community Partnerships Department\u2019s 2020 Leadership Fellowship!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"LaithLaith will be working with\u00a0<\/span> MSA7 to create assessments and programs. These programs will support the mental wellbeing of educators. Laith states, \u201c<\/span>The principal of MSA7 mentioned burnout has always been a chronic issue. Furthermore, the pandemic has exacerbated those symptoms further than anything <\/span>she\u00a0<\/span>has ever seen in her school. I have designed an employee well-being support program and will be implementing it over the next four months.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although there were several candidates being considered for this fellow<\/span>ship,<\/span>\u00a0Laith stood out because of his consistent work within his community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Community Partnerships<\/h3>\n

\"Laith“Laith is always ready to serve and help!” <\/span>says Dr. Nadia Jones<\/a>, Associate Director of\u00a0<\/span>Community Partnerships.<\/span> \u201cLaith provides tutoring services at a school 15 hours a week. He delivers workshops in the community. He also has participated in every activity that Community Partnerships offers in CA on a volunteer basis. \u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the students are more compassionate, intelligent, artistic, loved, and supported, they will develop their communities. They are able to giving back and become more productive, loving, positive and equally important members of <\/span>society explains<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Laith<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI am here to serve and also help above all else.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
