Takoma Park, Md. (November 7, 2017)<\/strong> Washington Adventist University<\/a> (WAU) and The Chicago School<\/a> reached an agreement recently that will make it easier for WAU graduate psychology students to earn a doctoral degree so that they can provide holistic, professional psychology services that will improve community health.<\/p>\n

The agreement was signed October 26, 2017 by Washington Adventist University President Weymouth Spence, Ed.D., and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology President Michele Nealon, Psy.D. \u00a0Beginning in fall 2017, WAU students who earn their master\u2019s degree in counseling psychology or clinical mental health counseling and who meet The Chicago School acceptance criteria, will be guaranteed acceptance into the Clinical Psy.D. Program<\/a> at the Washington, D.C. Campus, and will be able to seamlessly transfer four required courses as long as they earned a grade of \u201cB\u201d or higher. In addition, tuition costs will be discounted.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are extremely pleased to have forged this agreement with The Chicago School,\u201d said WAU Provost Cheryl Harris Kisunzu, Ph.D. \u201cOur graduate psychology students are taught from a faith-informed perspective to provide holistic care to others. Those who earn a doctoral degree will be in a better position to address mental health needs and will further enrich our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is exciting to offer students at Washington Adventist University a new career path in the field of mental health,\u201d said Heather Sheets, Psy.D., The Chicago School Washington, D.C. Campus Dean. \u201cOur practitioner-model of education and training is intended to give graduates immediate access to jobs and help fill the gap in mental health care facing the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Washington Adventist University School of Graduate and Professional Studies<\/a> offers evening graduate degree programs in Counseling Psychology<\/a> (MA) and Clinical Mental Health Counseling<\/a> (MA), as well as an evening undergraduate \u00a0Counseling Psychology<\/a> program (BS). One of more than 20 degree programs The Chicago School offers across its four campuses, the Washington, D.C. Clinical Psy.D. Program is American Psychological Association (APA) accredited, and offers students a broad knowledge of scientific and theoretical psychology principles.<\/p>\n

Although the agreement guarantees admission for eligible 2017 graduates, those who graduated in previous years and who seek admission to The Chicago School will be evaluated on an individual basis to determine their eligibility for the transfer of courses and for the ten percent tuition discount.<\/p>\n
