Hector Y. Adames, Psy.D., and Nayeli Y. Chavez-Due\u00f1as, Ph.D., (both faculty members in the university\u2019s Counseling Psychology department) have been especially prolific in this regard, publishing three new books with the American Psychological Association (APA) in just the past few years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/pubs\/books\/succeeding-as-a-therapist\">\u201cSucceeding as a Therapist,\u201d<\/a> according to Dr. Adames, \u201chighlights how therapists, regardless of where they are in their careers, can thrive in our challenging, ever-changing world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Chavez-Due\u00f1as says, \u201cWith this book, we want to demonstrate that doing good work in this field takes a lot of training. You really need to be a lifelong learner to succeed. The learning process doesn\u2019t end at graduation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Adames and Dr. Chavez-Due\u00f1as built upon this foundation in their next book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/pubs\/books\/speaking-unspoken\">\u201cSpeaking the Unspoken.\u201d<\/a> Dr. Adames says this book \u201ctakes topics like racism, which people can find hard to talk about, and shows how we can break the silence to move toward a common goal of true communal justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In their most recent book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/pubs\/books\/decolonial-psychology\">\u201cDecolonial Psychology,\u201d<\/a> Dr. Adames and Dr. Chavez-Due\u00f1as expand on some of this thinking in an exploration of how to decolonize the field of psychology itself.<\/p>\n<p>Says Dr. Chavez-Due\u00f1as, \u201cWith this work, we help create a foundation for a new sub-discipline within psychology that focuses on how to move away from overreliance on Western, white, heterosexual male perspectives, so that we\u2019re also celebrating and amplifying the work of people from the Global South.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-118578 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thechicagoschool.edu\/insight\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Faculty-Scholarship.jpg\" alt=\"The cover of &quot;Decolonial Psychology&quot; by Hector Y.
