{"id":118809,"date":"2024-06-25T13:37:23","date_gmt":"2024-06-25T18:37:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thechicagoschool.edu\/insight\/?p=118809"},"modified":"2025-04-17T12:13:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-17T17:13:08","slug":"dr-john-lucas-proposed-illinoiscom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thechicagoschool.edu\/insight\/psychology\/dr-john-lucas-proposed-illinoiscom\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. John Lucas and the Proposed IllinoisCOM: A Persistent Builder"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"clearfix\"><p>For John Lucas, DO, founding dean and chief academic officer of the proposed Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine (IllinoisCOM) at The Chicago School, launching a medical school is a natural extension of his career trajectory. \u201cWhen I reflect on how I got to where I am today, I always thrived when I got to build something new,\u201d Dr. Lucas says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a student, I was one of the first graduating classes at my medical school,\u201d Dr. Lucas continues. \u201cI was one of the first groups to progress through my residency program, and then as a medical school administrator, I supported launching new campuses for our faculty, staff, and students. I\u2019m excited to bring this history of innovation to what we\u2019re building here at The Chicago School.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Says The Chicago School\u2019s President Michele Nealon, Psy.D., \u201cDr. Lucas joins The Chicago School with the leadership experience we know will fuel the success of our newest college.\u201d In his immediate past role, Dr. Lucas served as senior vice president for institutional advancement and administration at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). Dr. Lucas also served as interim campus dean at VCOM-Auburn campus.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Lucas is also a board-certified emergency medicine physician with extensive clinical and administrative experience. He served as an attending emergency medicine physician at the Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia. He was also medical director and chief in the emergency department and medical director in hospitalist medicine at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg, Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThroughout my medical career, I\u2019ve learned that psychology is what makes people unique. Every patient interaction I\u2019ve had has involved psychology in some way or another,\u201d Dr. Lucas says. \u201cThat\u2019s why this opportunity with IllinoisCOM is so uniquely valuable.
