Alliance Calls on Congress to Pass Legislation Protecting Dreamers<\/em><\/p>\n

(CHICAGO) (December 21, 2017)<\/strong> \u2013The Chicago School\u2014one of the leading nonprofit institutions devoted exclusively to psychology, and related behavioral health sciences\u2014has joined the Presidents\u2019 Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration<\/strong>, a collective effort founded to improve how colleges and universities address immigration-related matters affecting their campuses. Comprised of over 150 public and private universities, university systems, colleges and community colleges from across the country, the alliance will support adoption of best practices on campuses, and work in a unified manner to communicate the need for federal and state policies that create a welcoming environment for immigrant, undocumented, and international students.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs an institution committed to embracing diversity, and an advocate of inclusion and equity, it is important that we join this kind of effort that encourages policies that support all of our students, including DACA, immigrant and international. These students are the future leaders and contributors to our local communities and the world,\u201d said The Chicago School President Dr. Michele Nealon.<\/p>\n

The alliance\u2019s urgent priority is to urge Congress to find a legislative solution for Dreamers affected by the repeal of DACA.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the urgent threat that DACA recipients are currently facing, the Alliance and our member presidents\u2019 first undertaking will be to urge Congress to protect Dreamers with permanent legislation as soon as possible,\u201d said<\/strong> David Oxtoby, President Emeritus of Pomona College <\/strong>and the alliance\u2019s steering committee member, who previously issued a letter signed by more than 700 college and university presidents urging Congress to protect DACA recipients<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe breadth of support for the Alliance and for Dreamers from higher education leaders across the country underscores the high importance presidents place on the value of educating anyone and everyone with the talent and drive to contribute to our country and the world,\u201d said Dorothy Leland, Chancellor of U.C. Merced<\/strong>, alliance founding member and steering committee member.<\/p>\n
