Whether you\u2019re embarking on a career change, need to take care of family members, or simply prefer a remote education option, online counseling degrees are out there. What does an online counseling degree entail?<\/h3>\n

You can obtain a Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree online<\/a> at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Also known as CMHC, Clinical Mental Health Counseling combines classic psychotherapy methods with individualized care. TCSPP\u2019s online CMHC program educates students on topics related to anxiety, depression, grief, stress, relationships, and other mental health issues.<\/p>\n

Counseling psychology programs train students in advocacy, counseling, prevention, intervention, assessment, diagnosis, evaluation, research, and many other skills. Qualified graduates can go on to apply for jobs<\/a> in hospitals, health centers, government or community agencies, or private practices.<\/p>\n

The Chicago School\u2019s online M.A. in CMHC does the above by following \u201cThe Essential Threads.\u201d \u201cThe Essential Threads\u201d are the foundation of the online counseling degree program. They include professional identity, ethical decision making, multicultural competence, and practical application.<\/p>\n

Every course and assignment in the program supports these underlying values. Courses include \u201cDiagnosis of Mental Health Issues\u201d and \u201cAssessment of Individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n

What does it take to complete an online counseling degree?<\/h3>\n

The Chicago School\u2019s M.A. in CMHC is a part-time master\u2019s program and takes three years to complete.<\/p>\n

It requires 60 credit hours total. This means students typically devote about 21 hours per week to classes and coursework.<\/p>\n

While the online framework is flexible, students still get a wealth of interactive and real-world experiences. Courses include live discussions performed online. Fieldwork is part of the program\u2019s requirements; students must complete a 100-hour practicum and a 600-hour internship.
