(CHI<\/strong>CAGO) (APRIL 2, 2018) \u2013 <\/strong>Dr. Kelli Johnson has been named Department Chair of the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School at Xavier University of Louisiana<\/a>. Dr. Johnson assumed her new role on March 1, 2018.<\/p>\n

Prior to joining The Chicago School, one of the leading nonprofit institutions devoted to psychology, and related behavioral sciences, Dr. Johnson served as an assistant professor and the Director of Clinical Training at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. An APA accreditation site visitor, she is also the Past President of the Association of Chicagoland Externship and Practicum Training, has served as a site visitor for the International Association of Counseling Services; and currently serves as the Chair for the Ethnic Racial Diversity Committee for the National Council of Schools and Programs for Professional Psychology.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am thrilled that Dr. Johnson has decided to join The Chicago School in this crucial role,\u201d said Margie Martyn, Ph.D., Campus Dean, The Chicago School Chicago Campus and TCSPP@XULA. \u201cDr. Johnson is a licensed clinical psychologist with significant teaching experience, and has held many leadership roles in the field of psychology. I am very confident that she will be very successful in this role.\u201d<\/p>\n

The commitment of the program, faculty, staff, and students to being of service to the community is impressive, and I am honored to be joining them in their mission,\u201d Dr. Johnson explained.<\/p>\n

Hosted on the Xavier University<\/a> (XULA) campus, the program was launched in 2016 after a partnership was forged between XULA and The Chicago School<\/a> to educate and train the next generation of practitioners who will help to meet the mental health services needs of the city and region. The program offers 106 credit hours of rigorous training in culturally competent service provision, while exposing students to a variety of practicum and internship training opportunities.\u00a0 It is open to qualified candidates from XULA, and other local universities, as well as to qualified professionals already working in the field who would like to expand their training and enhance their practitioner experience.<\/p>\n

Dr. Johnson earned a Ph.D.in Counseling Psychology from the University of Miami and is a licensed clinical psychologist in Illinois and Florida (retired).<\/p>\n
