Getting the school year started on the right foot is the goal of any successful orientation program. The Chicago School\u2019s Fall Orientation is a week-long series of events where students are introduced to the deans, their professors, their programs of study and their new campuses through resource fairs, receptions, socials, and other gatherings.<\/p>\n

The focus is on the students: their needs, and what can be done to ensure their success. We\u2019re always interested in finding out why students chose The Chicago School and what, if anything, can be done to improve their experience. Students\u2019 reasons for choosing The Chicago School to continue their educational journeys are varied and always interesting. Many shared them with us during Orientation Week.<\/p>\n

Jefferey<\/strong> moved all the way from Miami to start the next chapter of his life in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m nervous, anxious, ready to get started. I\u2019m getting older and I want to control my destiny and this degree will afford me the opportunity to do that.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"\"Shannon<\/strong>, who moved from Iowa to Chicago to study Forensic Psychology loves the diversity. \u201cThe diversity\u2026I\u2019m from a really small town, and it’s exciting to be a part of a place with so much diversity!”<\/em><\/p>\n

Jissel<\/strong>, embarking on the first year of her program in Los Angeles, says she chose The Chicago School after an exhaustive search.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been working in the field for a couple of years and decided to pursue a Psy.D. I\u2019ve been doing research about schools and found this one to be the most fitting. It was a matter of scheduling, courses, location – and decided this is the best one.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Chicago School President Michele Nealon<\/strong>, Psy.D. – shared some advice with the students:<\/p>\n

I tell them to remember why they\u2019re here: To engage in years\u2019 worth of training that\u2019s going to advance their careers and their academic futures. And to remember to think of this as a semester at a time. You really have to focus on one day at a time, one semester at a time. You\u2019ve already been tremendously successful, you\u2019ve gotten to graduate school, you\u2019ve gotten this far, you know exactly what to do. Remember the great institution that they\u2019ve signed up with, remember the mission that we represent, have a lot of fun and you\u2019ll be just fine.<\/em><\/p>\n

Across the university, campus deans and academic deans were sure to introduce themselves to the new students, as did faculty and staff, giving the new students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the people they will rely on the most over the next two to six years. In their own words, each campus dean delivered the same message to students, one that thanked them for their choice, reassured them it was the right one and that The Chicago School is here to help them accomplish their educational goals.<\/p>\n
