Veronica Appleton, a TCSPP student, has accomplished two major goals in 2018: graduating with a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership<\/a> and being honored as one of Crain\u2019s Chicago\u2019s \u201d20 In Their 20s<\/u><\/a>,\u201d the latter of which aims to honor 20 young changemakers in business, technology, and innovation. Appleton\u2019s dissertation on implicit bias in advertising, public relations, and marketing teams may be one of many driving forces in how she was chosen.<\/p>\n

Veronica Appleton<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

According to Crain\u2019s Chicago, her job is to \u201cchange advertising.\u201d Through We Are Unlimited<\/a>, Appleton\u2014along with a five-person HR team\u2014represents people of color, women, veterans, and the LGBTQ community. We Are Unlimited, which was founded in 2016, partners with other diversity organizations to scout, hire, and keep candidates seeking to work within the advertising realm who were too often overlooked.<\/p>\n

Appleton is focused on broadening that spectrum, not just for adults but children too. The adjunct professor from DePaul University has completed speaking events geared toward teens, including for the Chicago Urban League Teen Conference and at Thornwood High School. Appleton is also the author of two children\u2019s books: Journey to Appleville<\/em><\/a> and the upcoming book Tu-Tu Goes to School<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n
