The Chicago School Southern California Campuses and Online Campus will graduate 265 doctoral and master\u2019s degree candidates at its annual commencement ceremony on October 29, 11 a.m. at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Students will graduate from 21 different psychology and behavioral programs and concentrations<\/a> offered by the institution. The Chicago School is the leading nonprofit graduate school devoted exclusively to psychology, and related behavioral and health sciences.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am immensely proud of each and every graduate who will walk across that stage on Thursday,\u201d said Cynthia B. Worthen, Ed.D., dean of Academic Affairs, Southern California Campuses. \u201cThey have dedicated many years and countless hours of their lives towards launching their careers to become agents of change and leaders in the world of psychology. I am confident they are well positioned to fulfill their professional goals and aspirations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nationally recognized public safety and violence elimination professional to deliver keynote address.<\/h3>\n

Honorary Degree Recipient and keynote speaker Aquil Basheer has been described as \u201cone of the nation\u2019s most premier violence intermediation professionals, elite public safety experts and hard core gang intervention specialists\u201d in society today.\u00a0 He has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the California Peace Prize. Basheer is the founder of the\u00a0Professional Community Intervention Training Institute<\/a>, a program in Los Angeles that has partnered with The Chicago School for over five years, allowing participating psychology students to learn how to integrate academia and community-based violence prevention.<\/p>\n

Also addressing the students is the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient Peter Shore, Psy.D. A 2009 Clinical Psychology graduate of The Chicago School\u2019s Chicago Campus, Dr. Shore serves as the director of Telehealth for Northwest Veterans Integrated Service Network in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Director for Mobile Clinical Video in the Office of Connected Care, VA Central Office. He is currently a clinical psychologist and assistant professor of psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at Oregon Health and Science University. Additionally, Dr. Shore maintains a clinical practice within the VA as a compensation and pension mental health examiner and psychologist on the Acute Psychiatry unit at the Portland VA.<\/p>\n

Representing the graduating class is student speaker Vernita Perkins who is a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership candidate. Perkins has extensive speaking and seminar facilitation experience and holds a master\u2019s degree in organizational leadership with an organization management concentration from Lewis University, a bachelor\u2019s degree in theatre from New Mexico State University and a personal development practitioner\u2019s licensure. Perkins plans to continue her research on leadership effectiveness and advocacy on a global scale.<\/p>\n
