Eight doctoral students, one faculty member and a staff member from The Chicago School<\/a> Campuses in Chicago, Washington, D.C. \u00a0and online, were recently inducted into the prestigious Edward A. Bouchet Graduate Honor Society<\/a> that recognizes outstanding scholarly achievement and promotes diversity and excellence in doctoral education and the professoriate. The Chicago School is a nonprofit university, and one of the leading institutions devoted to psychology, and related behavioral and health sciences.<\/p>\n

\n

Orlando L. Taylor, Ph.D.,<\/a> founding member of the Bouchet Society, and The Chicago School\u2019s Washington, D.C. Campus, received the annual Bouchet Medal for Outstanding Leadership in Graduate Education in 2004. When Dr. Taylor joined The Chicago School, he found that various students embodied the qualities a Bouchet member exemplifies, and made the connection to have these students nominated to the Society. \u00a0In 2013, The Chicago School had 33 inaugural inductees.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very proud of our inductees who exemplify the qualities of Dr. Bouchet. They are hardworking, determined, unafraid of obstacles, and true advocates of service to the community. They are a great reflection on our institution, proving that we are a university of choice that attracts individuals who want to effect change and see purpose in our mission,\u201d said Michele Nealon-Woods, Psy.D., president of The Chicago School.<\/p>\n

The Chicago School joins 11 esteemed university partners \u2013 Cornell University, George Washington University, Howard University, Rutgers University, University of California-Los Angeles, University of California-San Diego, University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Washington University in St. Louis, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and Yale University, who have been recognized by the Bouchet Society for producing outstanding scholars committed to contributing to the development of their field(s) of study.<\/p>\n

The Edward Alexander Bouchet Graduate Honor Society commemorates the first African American to earn a doctorate degree from an American university (Physics, Yale University, 1876). One national charter with two chapters was inaugurated by Yale University and Howard University in 2005. The Bouchet Society seeks to develop a network of pre-eminent scholars exemplifying academic and personal excellence, character, service and advocacy for students who have been traditionally underrepresented in the academy.<\/p>\n
