{"id":5576,"date":"2016-01-12T09:35:41","date_gmt":"2016-01-12T15:35:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thechicagoschool.edu\/?p=5576"},"modified":"2025-04-16T17:44:49","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T22:44:49","slug":"addressing-homelessness-in-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thechicagoschool.edu\/insight\/news\/addressing-homelessness-in-women\/","title":{"rendered":"Addressing homelessness in women"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"clearfix\"><p>The Chicago School partnered with the Los Angeles Mission\u2019s Anne Douglas Center and First Foundation Bank to present a conference on January 11 to help identify key success indicators for women on Skid Row, and provide collaboration with other Skid Row agencies to develop a new mentorship program as a &#8220;standing in the gap&#8221; measure.<\/p>\n<p>The program will be designed to assist women currently in programs or who are transitioning out of homelessness overcome the adverse impact of homelessness and trauma. I was thrilled to give the keynote address to over 140 leaders of agencies serving homeless women and many of the women themselves who are currently in recovery programs or in transition. The Anne Douglas Center does an awe-inspiring job of working with women who show up at the Mission\u2019s door, physically and emotionally bereft with no other safe place to turn.<\/p>\n<p>Many of our students at The Chicago School\u2014all studying to be psychology and behavioral health professionals\u2014have the opportunity to complete fieldwork at the Anne Douglas Center, providing counseling and mental health assessments as part of the services provided to women in need.
