(WASHINGTON, D.C.) (July 5, 2016)<\/strong> Dr. Catherine Roland begins her role as president of the American Counseling Association<\/a> (ACA) after having served a year in the role of president-elect. In addition to being the world\u2019s largest association exclusively representing professional counselors in various practice settings, the professional and educational organization is also dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession. As president of the ACA, Dr. Roland will serve as chair of the policy-making body of the organization and as the organization\u2019s spokesperson. Dr. Roland is available for interview to discuss her new role.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am humble, grateful and excited. This is the pinnacle of my profession of counseling,\u201d said Dr. Roland, who is the department chair of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Department<\/a> at The Chicago School\u2019s Washington, D.C. Campus<\/a>. \u201cIt can be looked at as the most important professional position one can attain.\u201d<\/p>\n

For The Chicago School,<\/a>\u00a0one of the \u00a0leading nonprofit graduate universities devoted exclusively to the study of psychology, and related behavioral health sciences, having Dr. Roland as a faculty member and head of a department is another way the university lives up to its credo to ensure that its students receive an effective and high-quality educational experience.<\/p>\n

Her election by her peers to such a prestigious role bears this out,\u201d said Dr. Heather Sheets, campus dean, The Chicago School\u2019s Washington, D.C. She, along with Dr. Courtland Lee, a past ACA president, Dr. Verna Oliva, who assumed the role of the ACA Governing Council Parliamentarian on July 1, and Dr. Robtrice Brawner, a faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Department, offer our counseling students a stellar educational experience that they would be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/strong>Perhaps one of the most important roles I will assume is that of champion of inclusion of all\u00a0communities and\u00a0diversities\u00a0for complete and equal\u00a0access to\u00a0counseling services, in all areas or venues,\u201d Dr. Roland added.<\/p>\n
