Campus achieves rare feat of graduating its very first cohort from an accredited program.<\/em><\/p>\n

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) (August 17, 2016) \u2013<\/strong>The Clinical Psychology Doctoral \u00a0Program<\/a> (Psy.D.) at The Chicago School\u2019s Washington, D.C. Campus<\/a> has been granted accreditation for seven years by the American Psychological Association<\/a> (APA), the only organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit doctoral-level health service psychology programs. APA accreditation is recognition that the program meets the rigorous standards set by the APA\u2019s Commission on Accreditation<\/a> (CoA), and that students receive \u00a0training by adequately trained and numbered faculty within a program that is sequentially organized and well-resourced. The Chicago School is one of the leading nonprofit universities devoted to psychology, and behavioral health sciences.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to have earned APA accreditation for the full seven years; it is indicative of the exceptional effort put forth by our faculty, staff and students,\u201d said Heather Sheets, Psy.D., campus dean, Washington, D.C. Campus.\u00a0 \u201cAPA accreditation is the highest recommendation a clinical psychology program can receive, and because we are now accredited, our students will be qualified to pursue licensure in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and many other states. Additionally, accreditation gives students access to a broader range of internships and postdoctoral training sites, as well as increases their employment opportunities with the federal government.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Washington, D.C. Campus, established in 2010, graduated its first Clinical Psy.D. Program cohort in 2015. Because the APA site visit took place in December 2015 after the campus\u2019 self-study application was approved, and because accreditation is retroactive to the date of the site visit; students who have already graduated from the program are considered to have graduated from an APA accredited Program.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth acceptance of the initial application, and graduation of a program\u2019s first cohort under an accredited program are rare,\u201d said Milton Fuentes, Psy.D., department chair, Clinical Psy.D. Program. \u201cWe are proud to be counted among the few.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Clinical Psy.D. Program on The Chicago School\u2019s Chicago Campus<\/a> also achieved APA accreditation several years ago, and has graduated more than 1400 students to date, including Dr. Nealon and Dr. Sheets.<\/p>\n
